Genocide or Not in Syria?

I believe that what is going on in Syria is genocide. The government has threatened to exicute 21 defectors. Also, their president, Al Assad, sent tanks to restive cities and told them to fire on demonstator. President Al Assad is muslim. The internation respone hasnt been the best to this "genocide."

Blaming of Darfur

I blame humanity for the genocide because they are the ones that caused it, suffered from it, tried to stop it, and did nothing about it. You can’t have a genocide that is classified as genocide without having three groups at least involved. Here we had the ones killing, the ones being killed, and the ones who tried and didn’t try to stop it. Without those there can be genocide, and if stopping the genocide worked it wouldn’t be called genocide, or at least not to the extent it is being called now. We the people of this work have an obligation to help to weak and defenseless. We do nothing most of the time. Humanity is to blame for all genocides, past, present, and future. How much blame is put on those people is up to a government system.
To blame the group that didn’t try is not hard. If they had no idea as to what was going on, then they cannot easily be blamed. But to those who know it was going on, they are to blame because they know many innocent people were being inhumanely killed. They did nothing, sat by and watched as they killers killed. Those who tried were not being backed up by the ones that said they were going to help. Humanity is the fault of all things both “good” and “bad” in this world.

Guilty and Response Then and Now

One of the people I labled guilty was the man who pulled the lever to the gas chamber to let the gas in that killed the jews. A reasonable respose could have been to find a way to break the pipes so the gas wouldn't go in or he could have gone for outside help since he has inside access he would be a great asset in the camp for stopping it.

The U.S. should have showed the American people what was going on through the media. Then also sending it to other countries around the world. The U.S. also should have started a campain of some sort to try and stop or save Jews, not change their forign pollice.

Today the international community should take more responibility by publicizing the events to the world and making them known. Working harder to put an end to them, such as getting money to send military over to where it is taking place to stop it.

Defiance Question 2

I would have portrayed the scene roughly the same, that the Jewish people beat him up and killed him and didn't feel bad at all about it. Tuvia walking away as he did in the movie. The reason I would do this is because watching them kill him shows how mad they were at the Germans and Tuvia not doing anything about it shows that he doesn't care about the Germans and that he thinks they should not live. Knowing also that if he was let go of, he would come back with the German army to kill them all.

Defiance Question 1

I believe their actions are justifiable because they are a normal race of people that are being exterminated. They have to survive some how, what better way then to steal from those who are trying to kill you and turn you in to the SS. When all you love has been taken from you all you have left is revenge.

USAFM Reflection of Genocide

One stage of genocide I saw that really spoke to me was dehumanization. I saw that in multiple things. A few examples were the numbers they gave the men, women, boys, and girls in concintration camps. Thats how they were identified. So instead of saying, "Come here bob." They would say, "Come here number one." Ripping you from that human feeling of being a person. Another example would  be when they wouldn't let Jews own certian house hold items, like cars, radios, etc.

Jewish Live

175,000 Jews lived in Paris France. The Jews either lived there or found refugee there during the war.  German invaded France in May of 1940. In 1940-1941, Germans arrested around 10,000 Jews. The ones that were not arrested had to wear the Yellow Star of David badge. German officials started to arrest more Jews, they were held at Velodrome d'Hiver sports arena in south-central Paris, they were starved for days there. After that they were then deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. 60,000 Jews remained in the city.

Normal life was like people just congerating and having fun together. They can be together and have fun. As I was looking through the photos, most of mine were very different from what Jewish life was like. I had a hard time finding one but I did find one. The people in this photo are having fun and being together at a public place. It was similar in the ways that the people are being together, not caring what other people are doing and just having fun. Difference being that the Jewish people most likely didn't go swimming and have fountians.

Changed views on Genocide

My views are now that genocide is never seen very clearly. It's like looking through fogged glass. You can't see what is going on until its like half way through. It seems has if to get justice for a genocide people take it into their own hands. These people that commit genocide don't like to commit to doing a genocide. There needs to be more laws in place for them.

I-Witness

Edward Bedikian looks like he is serious and mean. Like you wouldn't want to mess with him. He probably was kind of scared of being taken away with the girl. I think that he didn't get taken away with the girl and he stayed strong through out the genocide. I bet he escaped and hid until it was over.

Classification/Symbolization

I think that they become a problem when they are pushed to the edge. For example, when you classify and say you are this, and you need to show you are this so we dont let you do somethings. Symbolization like, when a symbol becomes a target for a group. Like if you have a tatoo, you should die. stuff like that.

What Causes Genocide? My Questions About Genocide.

To me, a genocide is like a mass murder of defenseless and/or innocent people. It starts by someone wanting a group of people dead for a reason.

The questions I have is what defines a genocide, like is there a number of people that would have to be killed for it to be called genocide?
